The Committee on the Status of Atomic Energy (COSA) is a special committee established under the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission (UNAEC) to maintain the peaceful usage of nuclear energy, preventing the wide dissemination of nuclear weapons, providing safety beside the nuclear facilities and nuclear materials in current and ongoing internal and international conflicts.
Current crises that include the Russo-Ukrainian war, the Israel-Palestine war and Iran tensions, international threats through North Korea’s nuclear power, South Asia’s insecure nuclear arsenal and development (India, Pakistan) and a lack of regulations on nuclear tests are increasing tensions by directly involving the UN and international affairs. This committee will provide precautions on current and ongoing threats by unrestrained and insecure usage of nuclear materials, besides these strict consequences, such as mass deaths and highly damaged territories.
